The Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) is a voluntary accreditation scheme that promotes best practice for commercial vehicle operators. The scheme currently has over 4,900 members, FORS is rapidly gaining recognition as the transport industry’s go-to accreditation scheme and becoming more popular every year. FORS works hard to encompass all aspects of safety, efficiency, and environmental protection by encouraging and training fleet operators to measure, monitor and improve performance within their fleet. FORS provides various accreditation pathways for operators of any type, and for those organisations that award contracts and specify transport requirements. FORS accreditation comes in three stages which are bronze, silver and gold allowing commercial vehicle operators to work their way up the levels.
Throughout the different levels of FORS accreditation operators have strict guidelines that they must meet in order to gain their accreditation. All of the different stages are designed with the aim of increasing road safety among your fleet and other road users, increasing your fleets efficiency and raising awareness of environmental protection. This process includes various different aspects for operators to consider depending which level of accreditation they are going for such as vehicle specification and modification, FORS silver stipulates that all vehicles must have audible warning systems and blind spot minimisation measures in place. As well as this all drivers employed by the company will have to attend vulnerable road user safety training, this can be either safe urban driving or van smart training. These are only some of the requirements for FORS compliance and each individual company will have different requirements, some commercial vehicles may already be FORS compliant where as others may need all of the necessary adjustments to be made.
